Johnathan Jenkins – Sports Psychologist – 1/23 – 7:00 – 9:00pm
Topic – Controlling your mindset

Dr. Jonathan Jenkins, Psy.D is a clinical psychologist who works with athletes, both in his Brookline private practice, Mental Fitness & Psychotherapy, and as a member of Massachusetts General Hospital’s (MGH’s) Sport Psych Department.  JJ has experience with elite high school, collegiate, amateur, and professional athletes and his goal is to equip all athletes with tools that can 1) ward off anxiety and doubt during competition, 2) build confidence, and 3) increase their ability to digest data from coaches AND notice stimuli from the field of play (i.e. the opponent they’re guarding cannot pass/shoot with his/her left foot) with more accuracy and speed.  As we all know, soccer is a physically brutal and mentally taxing sport and much time/energy during competition can be spent coping with fear, doubt, pain and/or anxiety.  By helping athletes reach and maintain a healthier mindset earlier in the match and throughout the season, athletes can then transition to focusing more on other aspects of their performance with fewer unnecessary or harmful distractions.  JJ is an athlete himself, having played lacrosse in college, competing in several amateur boxing bouts in 2017, and ranking in the top 55 nationally in the Duathlon, a run-bike-run triathlon discipline.  Jonathan is a native son of Natick, Massachusetts.
